However, those of us who crave a taste of the city life and all of its walkable benefits should check out these three neighborhoods:
Horton Plaza: Walk Score: 97 Transit Score: 81 Bike Score:82
Located from State St eastbound to 4th St and Broadway southbound to G St. If you are one of the 1,474 people living in this neighborhood, then you are living in the most walkable neighborhood in San Diego. Daily errands no longer require a car, as you are surrounded by the Horton Plaza Westfield Mall, numerous hotels, an abundance of restaurants, and the city’s most notable theaters. You may even be lucky enough to work within the 15-block district as high-rise office buildings are also commonplace here.
Little Italy: Walk Score: 97 Transit Score: 77 Bike Score: 66
Located from Kettner Blvd eastbound to the I-5/ Front and W Ash northbound to W Laurel. Bordering the northern portion of the bay, Little Italy is the 2nd most walkable neighborhood in San Diego. It boasts bay views, cultural festivities, a plethora of restaurants and cafes, art galleries and an assortment of living accommodations including condominiums, single-family homes and apartments. Also a prominent element to this neighborhood is the weekly Little Italy Mercado Farmer’s Market with over 150 vendors making it one of the largest in the county.
Core-Columbia: Walk Score: 96 Transit Score: 81 Bike Score: 65
Located from N Harbor Dr. eastbound to 11th Ave and W Broadway northbound to W Ash with a small extension between 6th and 9th stopping south at Market St. The largest of these 3 neighborhoods, Core-Columbia is the 3rd most walkable and has 5,338 residents. Although it is comprised largely of commercial buildings, there are about 1,800 residential units and 348 restaurants, bars and coffee shops in this district. If you want to be kept close to the action of downtown San Diego, then this is the place for you!
